On December 28, 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan” robot intelligent manufacturing industry plan (Figure 1).

Among them, the new sensor specifically mentioned in the robot’s key basic lifting action includes the “six axis force sensor” (Figure 2).

KUNWEI’s main business includes the R&D and manufacturing of six-axis torque sensors. Today we will talk about force sensors and six-axis force sensors.
Force sensor, as the name implies, is a sensor that senses and measures force.
As we all know, the gravity of the object, the grip force when shaking hands, the friction force of the tire, the tension of the muscle, the buoyancy of the liquid, the pre-tightening force when assembling the parts, the cutting force when machining the machine tool, the wind force that drives the fan to rotate, and so on, are all the categories of force. It can be said that force is everywhere.
The international unit of force is N (Newton). Visually, the gravity of a 1kg object is 9.8 newtons. The weighing sensor for measuring the gravity of an object is one of the force sensors, and it is also a type with a wide range of applications. It is widely used in industrial and civil fields.
According to the measurement dimension, force sensors can be divided into one to six axis force torque sensors.
In the specified rectangular coordinate system, if the sensor can simultaneously measure the force along the three coordinate axes and the torque around the three coordinate axes, we call this kind of six-axis force sensor or six-axis torque sensor.
If the sensor can only measure three dimensions of force or torque, it is a three-dimensional force sensor. Cell load, three-axis and six-axis force sensors are the most common, while two-axis and five-axis force sensors are relatively rare.
Therefore, the load cell mentioned earlier is a one-axis force sensor. Because it can only measure the gravity perpendicular to the ground.
The six-axis force sensor is also the force sensor with the highest dimension, which can give the most comprehensive force information. The technical difficulty and use difficulty of the six-axis force sensor are relatively large, and it is very important for the robot industry chain and other intelligent assembly. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has included it into the core component category of key development. We will mainly discuss the related problems of the six-axis force sensor later.
